Speaker:             Stan Tuholski, Project Manager, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

  

Abstract:

Recent research has identified a void in how work is planned and executed during the product definition and design phases within the building design and construction community. This void has contributed to rework, waiting, and other forms of waste impacting project performance.  Learn what the DSM tool is, and how to implement it to effectively improve project design and construction.  Exposure to the DSM methodology will provide you deeper insight into the relationship between positive and negative iteration and information flows within your design processes.

1) Introductions - Welcome to LCI-NorCal

2) Share your results using lean concepts on projects and in your offices:

a) A “Lightning Round" Report on lowlights and highlights of any Lean Assessments performed in July, your use of 5S, your site walk looking for waste. (1 minute max each person ).

3) Main Speaker and Topic:   Stan Tuholski, Project Manager, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory will speak on "Lean Design Teams and the Design Structure Matrix (DSM) Tool".

 

4) Questions for the speaker:  Be prepared with questions! Another Lightning Round (1 minute max each)

5) Next meeting: NOTE:  With the Labor Day Holiday, we will meet on September 10th,  at Hilton Garden Inn Fairfield, CA.

The Lean Construction Institute (LCI), a non-profit research organization, was founded in August 1997. LCI's purpose is to develop and disseminate new knowledge regarding the management of work in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities.
